Description
According to the United Nations General Assembly (2015), gender equality is a fundamental human right and is essential in creating a more peaceful and sustainable future. Gender equality enables individuals to participate in decision-making processes related to such global challenges as climate change, poverty, and education. Many higher education institutions have developed strategies to help achieve gender equality, thereby fostering sustainability. This presentation sketches a study conducted within an international research collaboration to examine Vietnamese lecturers’ perspectives on gender equality in higher education. The study applies a quantitative research design, using a structured survey using a five-point Likert’s scale and distributed among lecturers of different ranks teaching in higher education institutions across Vietnam. A total of 372 questionnaires were distributed and 132 valid responses were retrieved, yielding a response rate of 35.5%. The data were analysed through statistical measures, including frequencies and percentages, mean scores, standard deviations, and the Mann–Whitney U test. The findings selected to present suggest that Vietnamese higher education institutions should adopt targeted interventions to foster a more gender inclusive environment, paving solid way for sustainability in Vietnamese higher education.
