Description
Although materials development is one of the most significant tasks in EFL teaching and learning, there has been limited research on this field in Vietnamese context. This study was conducted to scrutinize the students’ coursebook Life used for non-English majors. Thus, 42 students learning General English from December, 30th 2024 to April, 6th, 2025 at a local university were invited to participate in this study. The research focused on considering appearance and design, social and cultural aspects, as well as tasks and activities of the coursebook Life through students’ perspectives. A questionnaire consisting of 25 items divided into 3 categories were delivered at the end of the course, and semi-structured interviews were conducted during the course and analyzed via the thematic analysis to investigate students’ opinions towards the coursebook. The mixed research approach was applied to analyze the collected data. This study also recommended some implications for EFL teachers and coursebook designers of how to develop the coursebook to match the students’ need and interest.
