Description
This study was conducted to investigate whether input enhancement impacts the acquisition of relative clauses among EFL grade-10 students at a high school in Can Tho city. The research utilized a quasi-experimental research design. The participants consisted of 86 students: 41 in the control group and 45 in the experimental group. The experimental group was exposed to input enhanced materials in which relative clauses and relative pronouns are bolded. The control group was taught by grammar translation methods. The experimental group underwent the intervention for about four periods, totaling 130 minutes. Data was obtained via two tests which were pretests and posttests on relative clauses for both groups and analyzed using SPSS version 30.0. The tests aimed to examine whether the participants were able to comprehend and produce relative clauses. The results provided strong evidence that the intervention had a statistically significant and meaningful impact on student performance of the target grammatical structure. The results offer pedagogical implications for instructing grammar using enhancement techniques.
