Description
This practice-oriented presentation explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into English language teaching to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, especially in remote and under-resourced educational settings. Drawing from three years of classroom implementation, the presentation identifies key challenges commonly found in EFL contexts, including limited student motivation, low oral proficiency, and restricted access to authentic materials.
To address these issues, five AI-powered strategies were adopted: (1) transforming student photos into speaking avatars using text-to-speech animation to model native-like pronunciation, (2) generating custom teaching visuals with text-to-image tools for grammar and vocabulary support, (3) editing and contextualizing videos using background removal tools to situate students in authentic communicative scenarios, (4) producing natural-sounding audio files for listening tasks and E-learning materials, and (5) designing interactive digital learning resources with user-friendly platforms to simulate real-world experiences.
Results from classroom-based evaluations show notable improvements in student participation and performance, particularly in speaking and listening skills. The presentation also highlights the benefits of AI for teachers, such as time saving in lesson preparation and increased classroom interactivity.
The findings suggest that integrating AI in ELT can effectively address both pedagogical and motivational barriers in challenging contexts. This session offers practical guidance, sample tools, and classroom-tested techniques to help teachers implement similar approaches in their own settings. Attendees will leave with adaptable strategies to enhance their technology-mediated teaching practices and better support their learners’ development in the digital age.
