Description
This study explores the effectiveness of using drawing and picture-based presentations as a strategy to enhance English speaking skills among high school students. From my teaching experience, I recognize that many students face anxiety and lack confidence when speaking in English, so I have applied this engaging approach that combines creativity with oral expression. Students are encouraged to draw illustrations related to the topics covered in the English lessons in groups and present them to the class. This method not only helps learners organize their ideas visually but also provides a meaningful context for speaking. The study examines how this integrated activity fosters vocabulary use, fluency, and self-confidence in speaking. Data is collected through classroom observations, student interviews, and speaking performance assessments. Findings are expected to show that combining drawing with presentation tasks can reduce speaking anxiety, increase participation, and support the development of communicative competence in English. The research offers practical implications for English teachers seeking interactive and student-cantered techniques to promote speaking in the language classroom.
Biography
My full name is Thai Yen Nhi. I graduated from Tay Do University in 2012. I worked as an English teacher from 2013 to 2019 at a rural high school in Soc Trang province. After that, I quit teaching and started working at a company. It was not until 2023 that I took the entrance exam again to become an English teacher. I think being a teacher is suitable for me because I like working with children more than working in a competitive environment. Therefore, I have been teaching English at Huynh Cuong ethnic boarding high school in Soc Trang city for 2 years. From my teaching experience, students usually face difficulties in speaking English with many reasons. Therefore, I usually study more methods and apply them into my teaching to help my students improve and get motivation in speaking English. My teaching goal is that I want to help my students learn and use English naturally and fluently.
