Abstract
This case study investigates the effectiveness of combining Kahoot and ChatGPT in teaching General English to B1 level students at University of Science and Technology, Da Nang University. The research aims to examine how the combination of interactive quiz-based activities and AI-assisted support influences student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, student feedback, classroom observations, and pre- and post-intervention assessments. The study was conducted with 150 first-year students from the University of Science and Technology, University of Da Nang. Findings reveal that the integration of Kahoot and ChatGPT significantly enhanced students’ motivation, increased classroom participation, improved lesson retention, and encouraged more frequent language practice. The results highlight the pedagogical potential of combining gamification and AI tools to support learner engagement and improve English learning outcomes in Vietnamese higher education contexts.

Biography

Tran Thi Minh Ngoc hold a MA of Education from Huddersfield University, The UK in 2021. She received a bachelor’s degree in TESOL from University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Da Nang in 2018. She’s currently a lecturer at the Faculty of English for Specific Purposes, University of Foreign Language, University of Da Nang. She has taken part in lots of national and international conferences and seminars as a participant, and a secretary. Her research interests cover several aspects across teaching pedagogy, AI tools and technology in English education.
