Description
Schools in mountainous area face significant challenges in English education due to geographical isolation, limited resources, and a shortage of qualified teachers. To address these barriers, this project introduces a community-based English learning model tailored to the local context. The model emphasizes inclusivity, sustainability, and practicality by engaging a network of schools, local authorities, young volunteers, and community members.
Key components include the establishment of English clubs, peer-learning groups, and training programs for local facilitators. Lessons are designed to be interactive and culturally relevant, with a strong focus on communicative skills and vocabulary applicable to local life and ecotourism. Digital tools, such as mobile apps and video-based learning, are incorporated to enhance accessibility where internet conditions allow.
Initial implementation in several communes has shown promising outcomes: increased learner confidence, improved basic English communication, and growing community ownership. The project also contributes to local socio-economic development by preparing young people with essential language skills for tourism-related opportunities.
This presentation shares the design, implementation process, and initial results of the project, offering a practical framework that can be applied in other rural or ethnic minority areas in Vietnam. The study highlights the importance of contextualized, community-driven approaches, so that it can enhance students' communication skills and support local tourism development.
