Description

In this fast-paced digital era, the integration of digital transformation in education has facilitated learning experience and made education accessible to children across regions. Corresponding to the development of technology, many studies have investigated into the implications of social media as one of the language learning tools to improve learner’s language skills (Afidah et al., 2021; Dunn, 2011; Mardiana, 2016; Yang, 2020). As one of the most popular social media apps in Viet Nam in addition to Facebook, Youtube and Zalo, Tiktok has seen a surge in usage among Millennials and Generation Z. Therefore, this study aims to investigate into students’ perceptions of the use of Tiktok beyond classroom for educational purposes. Data for this study were collected from questionnaires and interviews. The findings reveal learners’ positive attitudes towards the use of Tiktok as a useful tool to learn English, motivating them to learn by watching videos from other accounts and sharing their own videos. The results highlight the positive impact of this platform on learner’s language development. This study also indicates several challenges faced by students, which can be investigated in further research to enhance the use of Tiktok in the field of language learning in and outside classroom.
